Front Page Ramble

The start of yet another new year and another new decade - where does the time go ? It certainly doesn't seem that a whole decade has passed by since that fortunate telephone call from Ray at the end of the last century started the ball rolling again that eventually resulted in the formation of Gunsmoke. It has certainly been a great experience being accepted into the Country fold by country music fans up and down the counties - long may it continue. I think it's because we now see ourselves as part of the country scene that it made us particularly sad last year to see the demise of a number of Country venues - in particular the once well supported ones such as The Longhorns CWC in Meriden and Gilley's CMC over in Wakefield. Still, it's not all doom and gloom as new ones are still appearing from time to time. One such club is the Truckin' L CMC over there in Pudsey, Leeds which has risen like the phoenix once again and meets monthly at the Parkfield Suite on Parkfield Terrace. In our little corner of the Country world, we had the honour of playing the last Country music show to be held at the Top Club at Bentley. Here is a venue that was literally packed on the night but despite this, has decided not to continue to host country music shows in 2010 - strange. We were told though that the regular Wednesday night 'free and easy' country night would be continuing so at least there is still a 'toe hold' there.

Our other venue in December took us to the Lone Ranger CMC down there in Leicestershire. I'm glad to report that this club is as strong as ever due mainly to the guiding hands and hard work of hosts Les and Judy who run the show each week. We're always well received down there and this night was no exception - thanks folks and we'll see you all again soon.
