REM Recording Studio

REM STUDIOS was set up to enable GUNSMOKE to record and produce their own CDs at an independent level.

Historically, because their original drummer from back in the sixties just wasn't available due to his work commitments, the boys decided to invest in an electronic drum machine for their act rather than heading along the road of advertising for, and interviewing, and then selecting a new man from a group of new drummers. It just didn't seem right in the spirit of what they were trying to do somehow so when GUNSMOKE hit the road it was as a reluctant trio rather than a quartet.

As far as recording was concerned, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as they soon found that firstly, an electronic drummer keeps perfect time, secondly, an electronic drummer is far easier to record once the intricacies of drum fills and the other finer points are mastered and last but not least, you don't need a huge space in your recording studio to accomodate a large drum kit !

Gunsmoke have a vast choice of instruments at their disposal in the studio including a selection of guitars both electric and acoustic encompassing both steel and nylon strung, a banjo, a steel guitar, numerous wind instruments, a full selection of harmonicas, a selection of keyboards and a solitary bass guitar. This presents no problems though as Ray has an enviable selection of his own.

All the Gunsmoke CDs are recorded and produced here using a computer based system and incorporating a 'layer' technique for recording utilising a 'bottom up' design.

GUNSMOKE have always been quite happy with the system as it has meant that quality control has always been firmly in their hands and has enabled them to always produce premium quality CDs of the band at a realistic cost.
